BASSEL SAADI

Biography

CV

Bassel Saadi (b. 1971, Lebanon) is a sculptor based in Florence, Italy, whose practice centers on iron as both medium and conceptual structure. Working predominantly with flat iron surfaces, Saadi constructs geometric abstractions that negotiate the relationship between mass, void, and spatial rhythm. His artistic formation has been shaped through extensive international workshops, including collaborations with DAI University (Netherlands), the British Council in Karachi, Darat al Funun in Amman, and interdisciplinary workshops across Damascus, Beirut, Diyarbakir, and Florence.

Saadi is best known for his sculptural investigations into the human head, wherein anatomical form is progressively simplified into geometric configurations articulated through metal planes and chromatic interventions. His works explore the tension between solidity and emptiness, using iron to create perceptual voids that challenge conventional sculptural presence. Characterized by a rigorous formal language and an architectural sensitivity to structure, his oeuvre transforms industrial material into poetic spatial compositions. Important projects and series such as A Wound in Dry Skin and Letters to Calder exemplify his sustained inquiry into abstraction, balance, and the expressive potential of geometric reduction.

Bassel Saadi’s works have been exhibited internationally in notable solo exhibitions at Agial Gallery, Beirut (2016), Samer Qazha Gallery, Damascus (2011), and Mustafa Ali Gallery, Damascus (2007). His sculptures are held in distinguished collections including the Saleh Barakat Collection, Beirut; Al Markhiya Gallery Collection, Doha; Atassi Collection, Dubai; and Imaginaria Gallery Collection, Florence. Through his exhibitions and international workshop engagements, Saadi has established a significant presence within contemporary Middle Eastern and European sculptural discourse.
