Arts University Plymouth is an independent specialist arts university, founded in 1856 as Plymouth Drawing School. Arts University Plymouth is celebrating its 170th anniversary in 2026 and offers a range of undergraduate, postgraduate and pre-degree study, delivering art, design, craft and digital media programmes to a dynamic community of around 1,500 UK and international students at our campuses in the South West of the UK.
We are proud to be the arts university in Plymouth, Britain’s Ocean City. Our city-centre campus is home to more than 13,000 square metres of industry-standard studios, workspaces and laboratories, as well as our public gallery MIRROR, Fab Lab South West and Plymouth Arts Cinema, the city’s only independent cinema. Arts University Plymouth is also an Adobe Creative Campus, supporting students to develop confidence with industry-standard digital tools. Our flagship international research platform Making Futures® explores craft, sustainability and material thinking.
International students are a valued part of our close-knit creative community, supported by academic and student services teams from application through to graduation. Teaching is contemporary, critical and practice-led, encouraging students to question, experiment and develop distinctive creative voices within an inclusive and globally aware learning environment.

MA Fine Art at Arts University Plymouth
Arts University Plymouth, in collaboration with Vedica Art Studios and Gallery, introduces the MA Fine Art programme for international artists represented by or connected with Vedica Art Studios and Gallery. MA Fine Art at Arts University Plymouth, delivered on campus, will deepen your studio practice by helping you to situate it within critical and contemporary contexts. You will develop your ideas and work in a practice-led, interdisciplinary environment, whether you work with painting, printmaking, drawing, photography, moving image, performance, social practice or installation.
Whether working in a singular fine art discipline, such as painting, drawing, sculpture, video, sound, printmaking, installation or performance, or across multiple areas of creative practice, you are encouraged to explore ideas through a process of making and experimentation that extends into new understanding or innovative creative directions. You will be introduced, through ongoing visiting lecturers, seminars, research intensives, critiques and site visits, to the ways in which contemporary art inhabits a range of contexts, from traditional gallery exhibitions to public art projects and socially-engaged collaborations. You will participate in current, international cultural debates through research into the relevant topics that will allow you to build a body of knowledge and practice to define what it means to be an artist in the 21st century.
