1979
Caterina Corni, a distinguished curator and scholar, holds a master’s degree in Art History and Criticism from the Università Statale di Milano, where she presented a thesis on the contemporary Indian artist Subodh Gupta. Corni commenced her career in the art world by collaborating with the renowned journal "Flash Art," while simultaneously curating temporary exhibitions across Europe, the United States, the United Arab Emirates, and India. Her curatorial work is marked by a profound interest in modern and contemporary Indian art, with a particular emphasis on the dynamic interactions between Western and Oriental art traditions. Over the years, she has contributed significantly to the academic and curatorial discourse by editing catalogues for several monographs and group exhibitions, thereby fostering a deeper understanding of cross-cultural artistic exchanges.
In 2014, Corni's innovative project exploring the artistic dialogue between Indian artist Jivya Soma Mashe and Israeli artist Michal Rovner gained recognition at an international level. This project was notably selected by the Centre Pompidou in Paris for the XXV anniversary of the seminal exhibition "Magiciens de la Terre," highlighting her ability to bridge diverse cultural perspectives through art. Her academic career is equally illustrious; she serves as an Associate Professor of Art History at Symbiosis University in Pune and teaches Modern and Contemporary Indian Art at the Università dell’Insubria. Through her teaching, Corni imparts her extensive knowledge and passion for Indian art to a new generation of scholars and art enthusiasts.
Caterina Corni is also an active member of the Assemblea degli Afferenti at the Centre for Cultural Heritage Studies at Università dell’Insubria, contributing to the advancement of cultural heritage research and preservation. Her multifaceted career, spanning curatorial practice, academic teaching, and scholarly research, underscores her commitment to exploring and elucidating the rich tapestry of global art history. Corni's work continues to influence and inspire the field of art history, particularly in the study of the intricate and evolving relationships between Eastern and Western artistic traditions.
