About
"Reconstructing Knowledge and Perception" explores Joas Nebe's engagement with cognition and illusion. Through recontextualised imagery and transient forms, the exhibition questions the fluidity of knowledge, the fragility of perception, and the interplay of reality and fiction.
Press Release
Vedica Art Studios and Gallery is pleased to present "Reconstructing Knowledge and Perception," a solo exhibition by multidisciplinary artist Joas Nebe. This online-exclusive exhibition on Artsy invites viewers to engage with Nebe's thought-provoking explorations of cognition, memory, and perception. Through a diverse range of media, including video art, digital collages, and gouache drawings, Nebe reinterprets encyclopaedic knowledge, blurring the boundaries between reality, illusion, and artistic intervention.

Central to Nebe's practice is an interrogation of how information is structured and understood. His works challenge the notion of fixed knowledge, offering instead an evolving, narrative-driven interpretation of information and visual culture. By recontextualising images, erasing forms, and layering symbolic references, Nebe's art prompts critical reflection on the fluid nature of truth and the deceptive qualities inherent in representation. The exhibition examines how external stimuli—be it visual reflections, domestic spaces, or digital manipulations—shape human thought, perception, and memory.

A major theme in Nebe's oeuvre is the exploration of encyclopaedic frameworks and their inherent contradictions. His video and collage series deconstruct conventional modes of knowledge, transforming traditional references into dynamic, ever-changing visual narratives. The interplay between physical and digital processes is also central to his approach, as he manipulates materials and technological tools to highlight the ephemeral nature of imagery. His work ultimately raises questions about the permanence of understanding and the transient character of both personal and collective memory.
